Yarn Fix

I went to Tulsa for a couple of days. I went to a new yarn shop (to me) in Utica Square called Loops. She has a very lovely shop. I visited with her for about 20 minutes. She has some gorgeous yarns and some brands I've not seen in our local shops. I did tell her next time she comes to OKC she needs to stop by and see Margaret at Gourmet Yarn. She has heard of Margaret and her shop but hasn't visited it yet. Yarn shop news must spread fast! She knew Luff had gone out of business. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly yarn shop news spreads in this world.

You know, being the good ole yarn-o-holic I am that I came home with some yarn that just wouldn't let me leave the shop without it. My plan is to make the clapotis from it. The tag states 550 yards but does not tell the yarn weight. To my inexperienced eyes, it's DK weight. But Yarndex states it's worsted. Yarndex also says it is 325 yards. I hope Yarndex is wrong!! lol This is Rayon Metallic by Blue Heron Yarns in melon. Don't know if the pictures show the color variation very well. It's a medium melon to a light melon with a bit of sweet pea pink and a metallic gold thread.

March Guild Meeting

We had a pretty good show for a rainy Sunday. The total head count was 23. Not too bad!!

Betty gave a great talk on socks and gave us several very good tips. Now if I can get the Scribe to lend me her notes. lol

Susan had on a beautiful cardigan sweater she knitted herself.

Anna (I hope I got the name correct) talked to us about charity knitting.

Jennifer showed us several items Mercy uses for PRIDE.

I had a very nice surprise when I discovered two ladies from my former job. Hi Melissa and Beverly!! Both seem to have been bitten by the same knitting bug and are we glad!!

10. I used to have baby dreams and now I have death dreams.

Wouldn't this yarn in vanilla make a gorgeous clapotis?

A Quiet Group

It was noticeably quiet in Border's tonight. We couldn't decide if it was because most of us were tired and out of it or if it was because all the rowdy girls were not there. lol Okkkk, I'm just teasing. We know it was because we were out of it. Even the store was noticeably more quiet. And guess what??? A Border's employee came wheeling up a WHOLE STACK of extra chairs!!! What a shame!!! We didn't need a one. As you can see we had Terri, Vanessa, Susan (with her moohaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiirrrrr scarf), Donna, Janelle, Rebecca and Shanidy. We had a new person join us and her name is Shel. We hope she comes back and joins us again. We had another lady approach us and ask if we knew who taught knitting in the area. Her sister wants to learn to knit. I think we sent her away with several possibilities. Karen, Jan, Rosemary and Shelly, we missed you! Oh, when I was checking out I asked if we ever made too much noise and the guy assured me, no. :-) Just a reminder, OKC Knitting Guild meets this Sunday at the Belle Isle Library from 3-5. Bring your current project and join us!!

Yarns a hanging

The yarn was hung by the chimney with care in the hopes that St. Smoke Removal would soon be there. Ok, so I'm not very original. lol I checked on said yarn that is hanging in the GARAGE as I have no chimney and while it doesn't seem to be as strong, it does still smell. I did see on Yarndex that the rayon Fiesta yarn is hand washable so I figure if I can get it to a point when I can knit with it, then I'll hand wash the scarf when it is completed. I also haven't made it to the liquor store to try the vodka cure yet. I will do that eventually.

Not much to report. Went to Barnes and Noble for the Monday knitting group. I was a little out of it from lack of sleep but I made some progress on the baby blanket. I also found a cool book on container gardening! I probably didn't need the book but this man has a system. I'm a sucker for systems. lol

Isn't she a good sport??

I forgot!!

I had a great Saturday. Met up with Rosemary, Vanessa and Shelly, reveled in yarn, good company at lunch and then spent the afternoon knitting and talking in Starbucks. I was laughing at myself because I couldn't leave my new yarn in the car. I had to fondle and adore it in front of others. lol Vanessa and I both bought one skein of some LaFiesta yarn. It is a rayon boucle and we both wanted to knit this ruffled scarf. I took my lovely skein of yarn out of the bag and inhaled. Ugh!!! Febreeze with a cigarette smoke afternote. Why I didn't notice it in the store is beyond me. I am the one with Super Nose!! Plus I have been warned. I pulled out the other two skeins of novelty yarn I bought and couldn't smell those. Got home last night and pulled the yarn out to try and figure out what to do. Inhaled all 3 again and WHEW!!! it is strong. I put some baking soda in a bag and then put the three skeins in another bag and zipped up the top. This morning it still reeks. So I decided to find a plastic container to pour the baking soda into and then lay the skeins on top of a piece of plastic. Of course it's only been several hours but I can't tell it has done any good what so ever. Lesson learned.

Doesn't she tolerate her mama's picture taking well??

Burger King Moon

Can you tell we had a full house at Border's tonight? I counted 15 at one time and I think that was before Shanidy, Karen, Jan and Shelly showed up. Our group is growing!! Susan B., Emily and Polly drove all the way from NW OKC to knit with us. I'm so glad they did.

Shelly brought her cone of Zephyr and it had "squeezability". An important factor for me. lol Shanidy brought Hadley pictures. It's so incredible that they can show such wonderful detail with ultrasounds.

Rebecca was working on a beautiful blue clapotis. Vanessa started her lime basket weave tank. Karen was working on a pretty blue variegated baby blanket. Susan was making fast work of I-cord. Jan started a hat. Angeli had on a beautiful sweater she had knitted. Susan F. had on a pretty cashmere sweater. Rosemary was working on some pretty pink socks. Madea was working on a fun fur scarf. Emily was working on her shrug. If you come to Border's to knit, you cannot leave without inspiration for all kinds of projects.

Does anyone else walk out of Border's at night and (in their periphial vision) think the Burger King sign is a full moon?

PS: If you see Jan and she looks a little tired, please understand that paying for a Rolex can wear a girl out. ;-)

Some progress

I seem to have overcome the knitting slump. I bought new yarn at the Knit-In last Saturday and cast on late that night. I haven't had to frog yet although I did have to tink over 173 stitches. Ugh! That's what happens when you don't READ the instructions carefully, which I'm very guilty of doing. At work today, we had a case meeting which can go on for hours. I asked ahead of time if the attorney I work for would mind if I knitted. He did not. Thank you!!! I managed to get several rows completed along with my usual input at the meeting. He told me about a conference he attends regularly where a female attorney always brings her knitting to work on during the sessions. He said if you watch her you'd think she was so absorbed in her knitting that she wouldn't have a clue what was going on. Wrong. He said she will look up and address the leader of the session and always manages to "bust his/her chops" regularly by taking up some issue about a subject and still not miss a stitch!!! You go, girl!!!!

I'm toying with the idea of a container garden. I'm wanting to grow tomatoes (not cherry tomatoes), cucumbers, okra and maybe green beans. Can you grow Kentucky Wonders in a container?? lol I've grown tomatoes before but in a regular garden. It has been many years though since I did. I live in a neighborhood where the lawns are mowed for us, so I don't want to dig up any area or interfere with an area that would impede the mowers. So I'm thinking of containers. I'm pretty much ignorant of many gardening skills. Does anyone have any recommendations about containers, soil and where I can find plants that are raised for this area of the state? Also any websites that might have some great information? I did find today that some green beans are either pole or bush varieties and I'm sure that would be important info in reference to growing in containers.

And for your viewing pleasure: White boots, aren't they adorable?

Knit-In pictures

I forgot to count how many people we had at the Knit-In last night. But I am guessing 20 or more. Rosemary gave Susan her handknitted socks. And I managed to capture the moment! Doesn't Susan look properly surprised? Especially after all that whining and begging and trying to guilt people into knitting her socks. ;-) It worked Susan!!!

Just FYI, there is no booze served at the Knit-In....just women feeling free to act out their knitting fantasies!!! Although I'm told we do get a little loud. I guess it's a good thing the shop neighbors are closed during these Knit-In's.

I know of four first time attendees, Kristie, Shelly, Shanidy and Vanessa. I also heard Margaret tell someone our Knit-In's will start having themes....sounds very yummy to me!! Although I regret I didn't get a picture of Emily's face when Margaret mentioned May's theme would be obvious. Poor Emily was thinking....Mother's Day??? Bless her heart, she didn't grow up here and Cinco de Mayo was not obvious to her. lol BUT.....there is hope....she suffered a little mishap with her car after a long and tiring day......and fixed it the good ole' Okie way......DUCT TAPE!!!

Thursday at Border's

We had another great time at Border's. Rini joined us for the first time, but certainly not the last!! Jan and Karen came back. Whew!!! I was half afraid they wouldn't after Jan's entertainment comment. Glad you came back!!! See you at Gourmet Yarn on Saturday at THREE!! ;-)

Now the reason why I'm posting this picture of Shelly's forehead is because she wanted her chubby cheek picture taken for Susan B. And it's my fault it didn't turn out. My batteries were dying and I was trying to eek out one more picture and well, you can see what I did. Sorry Susan and Shelly. I'll do better next week.

As you can see, some people take their knitting conversations seriously. Some of us cut up, but Susan and Angeli are doing some serious yarn selection here.

Terri called. I think she was really feeling the regret that she was flying back from a business trip instead of with us. She did miss a good time. In fact, she was the topic of conversation since she gave all of us something to laugh about last week.

Had to call Margaret tonight. I tell ya what, Karen, if you'd been at the table you could have kicked me and I would have shut up. I didn't know I was busting you. It seems Karen had Jan believing the Knit-In starts at 3 and lasts until 8. I didn't know it was Karen's ploy to get Jan there at a reasonable time. lol Anyway, Jan and I are talking and she says it starts at 3 and I said no, 4. So I called Margaret to settle it. Stupid me!! I didn't catch on and Karen was off looking at books. I wonder if I can get Margaret to change Knit-In to three??? Margaret???? lol

For those of you who have never been, Margaret hosts a Knit-In at Gourmet Yarn on N. May between Britton and Hefner in the Collonade Center the first Saturday of each month from 4-8. So that will be THIS Saturday. Bring a snack or goodie to share, your current project (knitting or crochet is welcome) and come join us. I meant to make the announcement at Border's tonight and I forgot. We have a great time and see lots of neat projects. Please join us if you can.

OH!!! Remember the nice knitter lady I met at the doctor's office 2 weeks ago?? She came by just to see if we were meeting. She promised her daughter she would bring her so she didn't stay but we have her email address to add her to our list and I introduced her to the group. I'm so happy!!! I think I recruited four of our attendees (counting Debi who dropped by) tonight!! Where's my gold star??? lol

Tummy spots

Now why can't I relax like that? Do you see those tummy spots? Did you know I'm not allowed to touch them? Shortly after I took this picture I reached over to smooth the hair so they'd show better. She immediately meowed and turned on her side. I think she must be very sensitive there as she has never allowed me to pet her there. Or if I've continued sometimes she tries to bite me! lol She has another little habit of throwing herself on the floor in front of me when I'm walking down the hall. That means, stop, I want foot lovin's. So I slip off my shoe and stroke her side from neck to tail with my foot. She'll roll from one side to the other soaking up this thing we call foot lovin's but if I accidentally rub my foot over her tummy and tummy spots, she either jumps and runs or turns to her side so I can't get to them.

Had an interesting day at the doctor's yesterday. Do you know what it's like at age 51 to be told you are going to take a pregnancy test? Thank God the next thing she said was, don't panic. Panic?? How about drop dead??? lol I still don't know why she had me take one. I was so flabbergasted that I didn't think to ask why. Maybe I had that second sense that said to my brain...this is to get hormone levels?? When I see her again, I will ask. lol Btw, the answer is no, I'm not.

Sorry, the knitting just isn't striking me at the moment. I've been playing with a simple washcloth. It's pretty mindless and I think it's just what I need right now.
